Four Interesting Things We Are Working To Improve The iPhone Game Kit

Updating our Cocos2D iPhone SkeletonWe’ve been busy. Here are four things we’re working on to improve the iPhone Game Kit:

Thing #1

Our next blog post will be along the lines of seeing how fast the Quexlor iPhone game source code can be converted into a different type of game. We’re still kicking around ideas for the genre, so if you have suggestions, please leave them in the comments. It’s going to be a fun challenge to tear the Quexlor project down to Cocos2D iPhone skeleton status, see which bones remain, and add new flesh. I’m especially excited about the eyeballs. Ahem! Well, this experiment should be interesting inspiration on improving the Quexlor source code, which leads us to Thing #2.

Thing #2

In September we plan to begin updating and revamping the iPhone Game Kit to it’s third edition. One thing we want to include in the book is more visual diagrams of how the game works, especially the relationship between Cocos2D layers, sprites, and the tilemap. Thanks to all you creators in the forums for your feedback and inspiration.

Oh yeah! Guided by curiosity and secret motivation to release successful games, we’ve done some background work on iPhone PR firms. How much do they charge? What kind of deals will they strike? Should I just do it myself? The third edition of the publishing guide (part of the iPhone Game Kit) will get updated with these publishing-related tidbits.

Of course, all owners of the iPhone Game Kit will be notified when the third edition is ready for download.

Thing #3

We’ve decided on a license to use for the Kit’s iPhone game source code. It’s the same as it was. You can do what you want with the source code, commercial or non-commercial. We just put it into this official license document.

Thing #4

Whoa now! This thing is big. We are preparing something fun for us all! Can’t say much about it now other than it will be a community-driven project which we are launching in the near future. Hope we can count on you!

See you in the forums!

How about an RTS? With the recent release of StarCraft 2, the RTS space is very hot. You could setup another website, iPhoneRTSKit, to make even more sales!
